Nylon is silky material which was first produced in 1935 as the bristles in a toothbrush. Nylon was the first commercially available thermoplastic polymer. The creation of nylon was intended to replace silk, because of the shortage of silk in the 1930s. Nylon has tons a uses because of its unique properties.
Properties of Nylon
- High melting point, which is about 500 degrees.
- Abrasion resistance, or the ability to resist surface wear caused by rubbing two materials together.
- High tensile strength, or the ability to stretch out.
- High resilience, or the ability to absorb heat.
